At least one in four Americans will contract a sexually transmitted infection (STI) in some point in their lives. (wwww.ashastd.org/stdfaqs/statistics.html)

19 million STI infections occur annually in the US, with about half of them occuring among youths ages 15 to 24. (www.cdc.gov/std/stats/trends2003.htm)

Condoms do not prevent the transmission of all STIs. For more information, read Male Latex Condoms & STD Prevention.

Many STIs show no symptoms in those infected. The only way to know for sure is to get tested. For testing sites at OSU and in the Columbus area, please see "HIV and Other STI Testing and Support Services in Columbus" form to your right.

The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) estimates that there are more than 25 STIs (Sexually Transmitted Infections) in existence. Listed here are the 8 most common STIs in the United States. Click on a specific STI below to learn more, or scroll down to read about all of them.
