Pleasure is Prevention is a series of events hosted by the Black Caucus in collaboration with Its On Us and local sex educator Erica Butler M.d. to provide sexual assault awareness and information on sexual wellness through a black perspective. This event is aimed to be an educational trivia for students to learn various topics surrounding sexual wellness, sex education, and sexual assault as a way to see how these topics overlap and are quintessential to one another, as well as being provided resources that they can utilize in relation to these topics. Prizes, free condoms, and lube will be provided. Winners will be able to win merch from Erica Butler's company, Happ E. Sex Talk as well as the chance to win a $50 gift card for the Lion's Den.

Trauma & The Gut: Nutrition and Digestion Post-Trauma

During this virtual program, we will explore the connection between trauma and gut health, including how stress and trauma can affect digestion, nutrient absorption, and overall gut function. We will also discuss the role of nutrition and dietary choices in promoting gut health and healing after trauma. During this event, our team will share insights and strategies for improving gut health and overall wellness post-trauma, including the use of probiotics, prebiotics, and other dietary supplements. We will also provide resources and information on additional support services available to those struggling with the effects of trauma. This program is open to survivors of trauma, their loved ones, and anyone interested in learning more about the connection between trauma, nutrition, and gut health. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussions with our expert speakers.

At the end, we will all meet in the Grand Hall Meeting room in the Ohio Union for free food, open discussion and speeches from community representatives, and much more. Sexual Violence Education & Prevention Discussion Panel

This one hour live virtual panel discussion will feature Ohio State and community professionals whose areas of work focuses on sexual violence, particularly with college students, sexual violence prevention, health promotion, and sexual education promotion. This interactive panel will address the question of "what is sexual violence?" for students who want a better understanding of the topic, who it impacts, and why it is important to talk about in a collegiate setting. The panelists will also highlight community and campus resources for students in need of support. The discussion will be moderated but students are encouraged to ask questions of their own.

H.E.A.L  Meeting: Memory & Cognition

H.E.A.L. (Hope, Empathy, Acceptance, Learning) Survivor Support Group is a weekly gathering for survivors, co-survivors, and allies to find support, community, and resources. Our next meeting will feature a special guest speaker, Dr. Leslie Rudy, who will lead a discussion about memory and cognition related to sexual violence. During this session, she will share insights and perspectives on how survivors' memory and cognitive processes may be affected by trauma, and how they can work to regain control and improve their mental health. This event is open to all members of the community, including survivors, co-survivors, and allies. We will have coloring pages, fidget toys, and snacks available to provide a comforting environment for attendees. H.E.A.L. Survivor Support Group typically switches back and forth each week between community bonding activities and discussion-based activities. This week's session will be a discussion-based activity, focusing on an important and relevant topic. Attendees will have the opportunity to share their experiences, ask questions, and gain insight and support from others in the group. We hope you will join us for this empowering and informative session. Together, we can work towards healing and creating a more supportive community for survivors of sexual violence.

SAAM Art Space: Creative Writing, Candy, & a Cat

Expressive arts can be instrumental in healing and supporting communities impacted by sexual violence. This interactive, writing-centric version of our Art Space gives folks a time to connect and engage in self-expression by exploring prompts and writing activities as well as perusing works by writers who are survivors. No previous creative writing or journaling experience needed, and no pressure to share what you write. Candy will be provided, and we are anticipating a visit from Cheddar the therapy cat. Come relax, take a break and create with us!

Mindful Eating in the N.O.W.  Moment

Have you ever struggled to be in tune with your body’s nutrition needs or found yourself eating for reasons other than hunger? These experiences are common for many college students and can occur for a variety of reasons (e.g. busyness, stress, finances). However, caring for our body’s needs can be even more challenging in times of distress or trauma. This presentation will cover the 10 principles of Intuitive Eating and explore practical ways for meeting our body’s needs and developing a healthier, more positive relationship with food.

OneLove x It's On Us: Relationship Violence Prevention & Awareness Workshop

How does body autonomy exist within a culture of consent? A fundamental aspect of loving your body is feeling you have agency and control over the decisions that affect you and your body. This workshop will cover how violation of bodily boundaries can affect body image, and how to feel like your body is your own after a violation. Further, our workshop will detail how body neutrality is a crucial part of setting and upholding personal bodily boundaries.

H.E.A.L. Mindful Nature Activity

Join H.E.A.L. (Hope, Empathy, Acceptance, Learning) Survivor Support Group for a mindful nature activity on April 17th from 7 pm - 8 pm at the Ohio Founders Room (2nd Floor of Ohio Union). This event is designed to help survivors, co-survivors, and allies connect with nature, reduce stress, and promote overall well-being. During this event, we will be participating in guided meditations and other mindfulness exercises in a beautiful outdoor setting. We will also have the opportunity to explore the natural surroundings and appreciate the beauty of the environment. This event is open to all members of the community who are interested in engaging in mindful activities and connecting with others. Attendees are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and bring water, sunscreen, and any other necessary supplies. H.E.A.L. Survivor Support Group provides a safe and supportive space for survivors of sexual violence, co-survivors, and allies to connect, share experiences, and find resources. Our mindful nature activity is one of the many programs we offer to support the well-being and healing of our community members.

Denim Painting for Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Join us to paint your jeans and other denim items in observance of Denim Day and to raise sexual assault awareness. This will be a safe space for all of those who would like to join to engage in fun self-care while honoring those who have experienced sexual assault. Pizza, beverages, and paint supplies provided; please bring your own denim.
