Love Your Body Week: Friday, February 26

Zumba for YOU

12 p.m. – 1 p.m.


This is a 60-minute dance party designed for you.  Your shape, size and dance talent will shine.  During this dance session you will shake, shimmy and rock your body to some great, Latin and Hip Hop songs.  You will burn some calories, condition some muscles and flex your balance all hidden in the party.  Bring a smile and let’s sweat together.

The Weight of Stigma in a Diet Culture World

2 p.m. – 3 p.m.


Weight stigma is a pervasive issue that affects people of all shapes and sizes, particularly people in larger bodies. This interactive presentation will explore factors that contribute to weight bias and its harmful effects, myths around Body Mass Index and weight loss, and how movements like Health At Every Size and Intuitive Eating improve health outcomes from a holistic approach.

Gender Identity and Body Acceptance

4 p.m. – 5 p.m.


Gender identity has a great impact on how someone expresses and views their body. For trans and nonbinary individuals, gender dysphoria can be incredibly distressing and make body acceptance and positivity difficult. At this event, SDES will discuss some ways that dysphoria is experienced as well as coping strategies, as some of our members have personal experience with both. We will then talk about how gender identity intersects with other mental health issues and provide info on resources located in the Columbus community. This event will also cover some ways that cisgender people can support people whose bodies do not conform to the gender binary.

Art Therapy for Self-Care

6 p.m. – 7 p.m.


Relieve stress and boost your mood with art! This body positive art therapy session will encourage you to express yourself and relax. Registration is required as art supplies are provided.
