5 Ways to Create a Safer Campus Environment
For Students
-
Consider these things: Is your phone charged? Have you eaten and drank water recently? Do you have a plan with your group of friends to ensure everyone gets home safely? If plans change, do you have a plan to communicate that to the whole group? If things become unsafe, do you have a plan to communicate that with your group of friends? Check out this safety planning resource from Love Is Respect for more resources!
-
When it comes to reporting, trust your intuition. Who you share your story with is your right. If there’s not an immediate danger, give yourself space and time to make the decision. Please see the handout on the right-hand side labeled Office of Institutional Equity Reporter Guide for information on resources that are confidential and nonconfidential for you to consider.
-
If you or someone else has been harmed, take care of yourself, take care of them, and ask for help. There are several confidential and nonconfidential resources for you to support your community of friends. Please see the Office of Institutional Equity website for the most up to date resources on and off campus.
-
Attend a Bystander Intervention Training or workshop and discover an intervention style that works best for your personality.
- Come to our session about Partying Smart and Hookup Culture and look into joining The Condom Club through the Student Wellness Center!
